Using ATMs overseas
While you can withdraw money and check your account balance using your debit or credit card please be aware that all ATMs are not the same and so in some countries your access may be limited. It's therefore a good idea to have multiple ways of accessing funds when abroad, such as our Travel Money Card.
ATM fees and charges
- There's nothing like the Global ATM Alliance Westpac Group partner ATM network to keep you going: when overseas, use your BankSA debit or credit card to get cash and pay no ATM withdrawal fee1 at ATMs including Barclays, Deutsche, Bank of America and more. BankSA does not charge a fee for checking your account balance at these ATMs. However, an ATM balance enquiry fee may be payable when using a non Westpac Group ATM or non Global ATM Alliance Partner ATM.
Be aware though that the following fees and charges will apply when using ATMs overseas:- A 3% BankSA Foreign Transaction Fee applies to overseas debit or credit card withdrawals.
- A 3% cash advance fee applies to credit card withdrawals for each cash advance transaction.
- When using a debit card, a $5 ATM withdrawal fee applies when you withdraw money from an ATM which is not part of the Global ATM Alliance network or is not a BankSA, Westpac, St.George or Bank of Melbourne ATM.
- Some overseas banks may apply a fee for ATM withdrawals and/or ATM balance checks. This will be brought to your attention before you proceed with the transaction and can be avoided by using one of our Global ATM Alliance network or BankSA, Westpac, St.George or Bank of Melbourne ATMs.
Things to keep in mind

- A BankSA Visa Debit Card2 lets you access your own money to withdraw local currency at ATMs and to make purchases, wherever Visa® is accepted.
